Iskilde was founded in 2002 and means “cold spring,” in Danish. The artesian spring was discovered in the Mosso Reservation a remote part of the Danish Lake Highlands. The aquifer is 180 ft below the surface and it is covered by alternating layers of quartz-sand and hard clay. Ground water in Denmark has an average temperature of 8 degrees all year round. This is an unusually cold spring and many believe it’s the reason why “Iskilde,” water is so pure. The exact age of the water is not known, but it is believed to be rather old, possibly dating back to the latest ice-age.
